Make Up « Child of Forest »
The goal of this effect was to modify the face of an actress in order to create a subtle incongruous feeling.
The facial proportions needed to be modified: more distant eyes, thinner chin, downsized mouth. Based on the 2D design provided by Production, BUF undertook the deformation in 3D. A cyberscan of the actress was used while setting up the effect.
Numerous iterations of deformation were proposed, first on still frames (frontal view, profile view, ¾ frontal view), then on different shots in order to find the right settings with the required subtlety working in animation and within every possible angle.
The deformation was completed with a 3D makeup. This makeup was to enhance the connection with the costume, to bring a global vegetable motif and to be able able to work on specific color elements such as the eyes or the lips.
For all the shots, the working steps were:
- 3D rotoscopy of the actress' face
- Projection of the plate on the rotoscoped model
- Rendering of the plate through a deformed model
- Lighting of the 3D face and rendering of the makeup elements
- Integration/Composition
